		CWDE

There was some confusion concerning chemical warfare defense
equipment (CWDE) gear for aircrew and ground crew personnel.
Operational bags and C bags provided only one mask per person. Since
the unit had only 25 spare masks, under a chemical attack, personnel could
not have doffed their masks because they would not have had enough
spares. Filter information was also confusing. Conflicting and incomplete
technical guidance made it difficult to know which filters were serviceable
and which were not. There were also many shortages in aircrew ensemble
            items.55

                  	  POL

No military POL capabilities existed at Sharjah. The area made
available for US use was not adequate to sustain POL operations for
deployed aircraft. They had to be contracted from airport facilities
Because Foreign Nationals drove the fuel trucks, there was the potential of
security problems. In fact, one driver was barred from the site when he
asked too many questions concerning aircraft, personnel, and the mission
            of those stationed there.56

Lack of small trucks or forklifts made refueling more difficult.
Many extra hours were required to transport 55 gallon barrels of diesel, and
then hand pump to support numerous generators. All MOGAS (gasoline)
and diesel fuels were available, but only off-site, posing significant security
risk to POL personnel, as well as hardship and inordinate delays to refuel
            vehicles.57

                    Contracting

Initially, only a single contracting officer was assigned to Sharjah.
Although he worked 20-hour days, he was unable to keep up with the
demand for his services which included contracting for beds, bedding,
water, electrical supplies, soap, toilet paper, cleaning supplies, electrical
