                            SECTION III-G-VI:    SIGNIFICANT ACTIVITIES


                 A.        The FMIB, the Army's only active component
            TECHINT iinrt, validated the qrbund force coinmander's needs
            for a scienti:tic/technical immediate analytical capability.
            Not only was it a key element in providing in-countiy threat
            tactic and equipment orientations to the soldiers and
            @lanners      .f- - collected,     exploited,   and     provided
                    n,      information ba     o the coalition forces on
             .ine-se itive                 ck t
            weapon systems and equipment found on the battlefield.

            Throughout DESERT STORM 237 environmental and biomedical
            samples were taken back to CONUS for testing and analysis.
            Environmental soil samples taken Erior     to D-DAY were taken
            from various locations throughout t e theater    for analysis
            to determine its effect on dressing, cleaning and attending
            various wounds from soldiers in -battle.         Results were
            provided to both ARCENT and CENTCOM surgeons and were
            in-turn passed to all medical units involved @ith providing
            medical assistance to soldiers in and out of theater.
