           2. (U) Operation DESERT SHIELD conducted by USCENTCOM on 02/11/91.

           4. (U) TITLE: DEPLOYMENT: TRANSPORTATION: MOVEMENT SEQUENCE FOR
           1ST ID (M) UNITS


           5. (U) OBSERVATION: Movement was planned to send support base
           first, followed by combat units. Airflow of unit personnel was
           then coordinated to arrive in country 1-3 days prior to the
           arrival a-F the Ltnit's equipment by sea.

           6. (U) DISCUSSION-. The planning and execution of this
           sequencing of equipment and personnel was brilliant. Only
           possible change would be to include a slice of MI and ADA assets
           up front.

           7. (U) LESSON LEARNED: Coordinating air*low of unit personnel
           to coincide with arrival of equipment by sea makes good sense'.

           8. (U) RECOMMENDED ACTION: lst ID (M): Consider including a
           portion of MI and ADA assests with first units to deploy.
