          2. (U) Operation DESERT SHIELD conducted by USCENTCOM on 11/05/90.

          3. (U) KEYWORDS: REAL WORLD OPERATIONS, U.S. ARMY, GUARD
          COMPONENT, RESERVE COMPONENT, READINESS, LOGISTICS, CHEM DEFENSE
          EQUIPMENT, SHORTAGE, SERVICEABILITY.

          4. (U) TITLE: Logistics: RC Unit NBC Equipment Readiness

          5. (U) OBSERVATION: Activated RC units arrived at mobilization
          station in various states of NBC equipment readiness.

          6. (U) DISCUSSION: Chemical personnel personally visited units
          to conduct joint inventories and instructed the units in how to
          fill shortages. CDE serviceability was also physically checked.
          Shortages of serviceable equipment had to be made up using AC
          unit assets in many cases.

          7. (U) LESSON LEARNED: As an attempted stop gap, a
          comprehensive checklist of required actions and an inventory
          sheet were generated and sent to participating ARCOMs through
          HO, Fifth U.S. Army.

          8. (U) RECOMMENDED ACTION: FORSCOM:    'Publish a comprehensive
          CDE equipment inventory list and appropriate inspection
          criteria; fund contact teams from STARCs/MUSARCs to alerted RC
          units.
