           2. (U) Operation DESERT SHIELD conducted by USCENTCOM on Ol/C)2/91.

           3. (U) KEYWORDS: RWO (REAL WORLD OPS), USA (US ARMY), GUARD
           COMPONENT, RESERVE COMPONENT, ORDNANCE.

           4. (U) TITLE: LOGISTICS: Mobilized Units Require more TNG AMMO
           than Authorized


           5. (U) OBSERVATION: Mobilized units are requiring more
           ammunition +or pre-deployment training/Certification than their
           original authorizations allow.

           6. (U) DISCUSSION: Readiness Group, while in its assistance
           mode +or mobilized units, advised units that they were required
           by regulation to conduct certain pre-deployment small weapons
           certification (ie, zero, qualification, -Field fire, NBC and
           night firing). Current ammunition authorizations do not allow
           +or this ammo expenditure. Additional ammunition was requested
           after the problem was discovered.

           7. (U) LESSON LEARNED: Units alerted for mobilization should
           verify that ammo requisitions and authorizations match
           mobilization requirements.

           S. (U) RECOMMENDED ACTION: FORSCOM: Identify/review
           predeployment requirements +or ammunition to ensure
           authorizations are sufficient to cover all requirements.
