                       OPERATION DESERT SHIELD - SUPPORT TO XVI'II AIRBORNE CORPS




                   The 92nd was initially task organized under the 36 Engineer

              Group (See Annex C-1). The 92nd sent an advance party to Dammam,

              Saudi Arabia, when the group deployed from Fort Benning on 15

              October 1990. The advance party consisted of the Battalion

              Executive Officer and senior representatives from the S-4 and

              maintenance sections. A week later, Bravo Company deployed. Bravo

              would off-load the battalion equipment once loaded ships began

              docking at Dammam. Charlie Company convoyed from their home

              station at Ft. Gordon, Georgia on 27 October, and Joined the

              remainder of the battalion as they departed on 29 and 30 October

              from Hunter Army Airfield via civilian Boeing 747 aircraft.

              Arriving at Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, the APOE, the 92nd's first stop

              was a temporary engineer troop holding area known as KABCO. MABCO

              was a leased industrial warehouse facility outside the city of

              Dhahran managed by the 20th Engineer Brigade for all XVIII Corps

              engineer units. There the 92nd soldiers awaited the arrival of

              their equipment by ship and made plans to convoy to their desert

              location.


                   The first ship loaded with 92nd equipment, the ALEX BONNYMAN,

              arrived on 22 October. The last of the 11 ships arrived on 26

              November. On 4 November 1990, the 92nd's main body convoyed from

              Dammam Port some 200 kilometers north near the Saudi town of

              Hanidh. This first base camp, Diamond Station 1, was colocated

              with the 36th Engineer Group. The 362nd Combat Support Equipment
