Command Sergeant Major Melvin R. Salach
Command Sergeant Major Melvin R. Balach came to the 92nd Engineer
Combat Battalion (Heavy) on I September 1989, from the 98th
Division (TNG) in Rochester, New York. Enlisting in the Army in
1967, CSM Balach had a variety of assignments, to include: Squad
Leader, 173rd Engineer Company in Vietnam; Platoon Sergeant, 307th
Engineer Battalion, Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and 2nd Engineer
Battalion, Republic of Korea; First Sergeant, 536th Engineer'
Battalion, Panama, and 588th Engineer Battalion, Fort Polk,
Louisiana. CSM Balach was the Senior Enlisted Advisor with the
98th Division (TNO) in Rochester, New York. CSM Balach's military
schooling includes the Airborne and Jump Master Courses, Jungle
Operations and Basic Amphibious Training Courses, BNOCES, ANCOES,
and the US Army First Sergeant Course. He is a graduate of the US
Army Sergeants Major Academy.
