1. VII ODRPS/7TH EWR BDE: Engineer Report #53 062400C MAR 91
A) CUFdZERr OPERATIONS: VII Corps Engineers continue to
support maneuver forces. Engineers support mobility by clearing enemy
obstacles where needed and luprovim roads and trails to support
resupply. Denial of enemy equipment and marking of hazardous areas is
being conducted by engineers assisted by BOD Detachments. IPSA Road is
cleared down to the PT 78 E/W Grid Line. VII Corps requested relief from
requirement to clear southern portion which runs through a complex
obstacle. Awaiting response from ARCERR. Will continue to improve M5Rs
to support redeployment. MrkiM unexploded ordnance ad]acent to MSR.
B) ENGINEER ISSUES:
1. Engineer mmitions. MI=C. Need AMCOCM to approve and
institutionalize the fixes. other units should riot have to continue
experimentation. EKtensive destruction efforts are rapidly depleting
Corps Stocks for Blasting Caps, Det Cord, Time Fuze, and Fuze Igniters.
Corps has increased stockage levels. However, theater does riot have the
mmitions. ARCERR G4 reports Det Cord, Fuse Igniters, non-electric caps
and Time fuze will be airlifted into theater. Based on density of enemy
aum stocks and equipment in VII Corps AO, request all of this equipment
be designated for VII Corps. repeat, require an additional 15,000 1.25 LB
blocks of C4 to omplete destruction of enemy equipmnt.
2. Equipment Issues. 7 EN BDE still needs additional 916
tractor assets to haul heavy equipment. German equipment issue only
replaces 5 of 23 short. RPV Airfield. lesson learned from this operation
is that the rPV is a resource eater. it needs its own runway material or
a different mode of launch/recovery. Airfield ratting, that must be moved
every 2-3 days is just not the answer. Explosive sniff irvg dogs, this
option for detecting explosives should be explored for use in urban
areas. Current mine detecting devices are ineffective and inefficient on
modern plastic mines. Need theater reserve for low density engineer
equipment, (dozers, scrapers, etc) suggest factor from doctrinal
publications (FM) and buy or lease commercial replacements for combat
losses. Dist Palliative Transport still needs method of spreading
palliative. Need to maintain MSRs is critical now as before. As
hostilities end, can envision use of contract vehicles and drivers. Need
to reopen the pipeline. Repeat. We are riot getting any crude oil.
Request that the engineer equipment given FNC Forces be replaced by
theater assets. Tractors up to FM with transmissions. No transmissions
have been available since deployment.
