File: DOC_80_CEASE_FIRE_DISCUSSIONS_WITH_IRAQIS_AT_SAFWAN_AIRFIELD_013.txtGEN SCHWARZKOPF (US): One point came up during the break Apparently, among the prisoners are some Sudanese soldiers and Yemenese soldiers. Our intention is to treat them just like all of your other soldiers and retur~t'h~m to you LTG AHMAD (I): We don't know of any Sudanese soldiers or Yemenese soldiers GEN SCHWARZKOPF (US): O.K Again, let's leave that to the Red Cross to work it out, LTG AHMAD (I) Indeed. We do not have any not even one in a million. GEN SCHWARZKOPF (US): Not even one in a million, that's not very many ThTG AHi~AD (I): No, in a chance GEN SCHWARZKOPF (US): Oh In a chance O.K What about the line? LTG AHMAD (I): I would like to mention when the cease-fire occurred and after 5 o'clock regional time we agreed about that, a lot of areas we had no armed forces there, we withdrew back from them. And out of these areas the place, the ar£a where we are sitting; now you yourself have seen where your troops .Iere at that time and when we wanted to come and shore a place for the meeting. Now I feel this area is already included in the area where you have lined and marked. After four hours of discussion at that time, and in this area where we are sitting, we now see that this area is included in the line you have marked. What does this, I mean how do you explain? GEN SCHwARZKOPF (US): Our position was that it was a very dangerous situation. Anytime we have fully armed forces mixed together in the same location. For the purpose of safety we wanted to separate the forces. LTG AMMAD (I): We have not wished to disclaim your point. But after hostilities you will go back to, and this is on the basis of course that this line is not permanent, but this will end when the document of cease-fire is signed and everybody goes back GEN SCHW~~ZKOPF (US): The line will end immediately and I assure you there will not be one single, there will not be one single coalition force member in the recognized borders of Iraq, as soon as, as rapidly as we can get them out. I know the General understands that sometimes it takes a little bit longer to move out then it does to nov in because we will have gasoline trucks, petroleum, ammo; but `4e will move out, and you have my guarantee LTG AHMAD (I): We are not very sensitive at that time when, with regard to commander your side who met with our people, and where he mentioned where he would like to sit on this place where we are sitting right now. We were not very sensitive about that, I mean we did not see anything wrong in that. Of course, the delay was for one reason because the agreement that we have received from the Mihister U ~~ Ac~~ 13
