the command variant Type 63 yielded numerous HF and VHF
frequencies utilized by the Iraqis. This information was
immediately reported to (,'-2, lst MarDiv for exploitation.
Phase III (Pursuit and isolation of Kuwait International
Airport). On G+2 (26 February) TF Papa Bear moved through
elements of the J.5th Mechanized Brigade of the 3rd Armor
I)ivi.E3j.on enrOL4te to MP,F Objective, C, Kuwait International
Airport. The G-2 net was flooded with reports of mass
surrenders and minimal resistance. Every halt resulted in the
exploitation of abandoned vehicles and bunkers. Our Kuwaiti
interpreters were overwhelmed by the amount of captured
documents submitted by MSE'S. The advance was halted at the
southwest corner of Kuwait International Airport. The 'I'F
Headquarters tied in with 1/1. and the Papa Bear S-2 immediately
concentrated on determining size and strength of enemy units in
the area. Task Force MSE's reported a lack of resistance. Papa
Bear S-2 initiated requests to Division G-2 for psychological
operations (PSYOPS) units.
On G+3 (27 February) Division G-2 dispatched a UH-1 Huey
to play psyops surrender appeals throughout the Task Force
area. That evening a psyops HMMWV with Army and Marine
personnel arrived to support the Task Force. Throughout 26 and
27 February, Papa Bear S-2 conducted exploitation of enemy
bunkers while Regimental Scouts provided security. Thorough
that
the cultivated area on the southwest corner of Kuwait
International Airport was headquarters of the 20th Mechanized
Infantry Regiment, probably of the 3rd Armor Division. This
final exploitation concluded Task Force Papa Bear's S-2 effort
during operations against Iraqi forces in southeast Kuwait.
LOGISTICS
The logistic section continued to exercise its combat
service support concept. During the first part of February,
several medical evacuation drills both night and day, were
conducted. These drills provided an opportunity to examine the
relationship between the Logistics Operation Center (LOC) and
the Regiment Aid Station (RAS). Procedures for handling
medevacs were established and fine-tuned. As scheduled, on
February lst and 2nd the Task Force moved north to its assembly
area. This move required coordination with Division G-4 to
transport heavy equipment to reduce maintenance wear.
Additionally, the move was conducted in two days with two
serials containing approximately twenty-three vehicles each.
Upon arrival at the assembly area, the LOC was established and
security posted. Continual training was conducted for LOC
personnel which included EPW handling, firing crew-served
weapons and NBC. Periodic operational updates were also
