established. 'I'he area just north of antennae hill was a large
agricultural area and was honeycombed with banker. At Kuwait.
International Airport the Communications platoon continued to
provide command and control communications support for the Task
Force Headquarters. Sinql,e channel VHF was the primary means
Of Communication throughout the campaign. The Position
Location Reporting System (PLRS) and Global Positioning System
proved to be invaluable assets given the area of operations.
The communications technician-- were consistently tasked with
repairing broken comm gear as well as fabricating required
parts. HF proved to be unreliable during the course of the
          operation.

                        NUCLEAR, BIOLOGICAL, CHEMICAL DEFENSE

Through the period of 1-28 February, Task Force Papa Bear
continued to train heavily in NBCD. Offensive and defensive
training was conducted in all levels of MOPP. This training
included breaching operations in MOPP IV as well as equipment
and personnel decon, both day and night.

The Task Force was prepared to conduct ground offensive
operations at MOPP II and to increase the level of MOPP as
required. The obstacle clearing detachments were equipped with
Chemical Agent Monitors (CAM's), as well as all MSE's of the
Task Force. The use of CAM's in identifying real time chemical
hazards allowed units of the task force to downgrade MOPP
          levels appropriately.

The Fox vehicle proved to be an indispensable asset. The
late arrival of this NBC reconnaissance vehicle caused a period
of hurried training on the part of the NBC Officer, as well- as
a certain amount of "show and tell" throughout the task force.
ol- center operated from the Fox vehicle
which provided the NBC Officer with a communications capability
he did not have prior to its acquisition. Battlefield mobility
was also greatly enhanced by the FOX vehicle.

                                       MEDICAL

During February, the RAS continued training for combat
medical support. Three mass casualty drills were organized
through the Regt S-3 and S-4 prior to combat. The first drill
went very well from a medical standpoint. Triage and staging
for medevac all went without problems. Problems that were
encountered however were: 1) security, 2) litter teams, 3)
casualty protection during air raid drills and 4) loading LVS's
for medeva(@. These problems were addressed before the second
drill. The S-4 designated specific personnel to do strip
searches, weapons -security and ceneral security for RAS
functions. Also designated were specific personnel for six,
fOLAr man litter teams. These teams were trained appropriately
and functioned far better during the later drills. Trenches
